Álvaro Herrera (born 1968 and died 2000) was the younger brother of Cali cartel leader Pacho Herrera.
In 1994, he accompanied his brother to Ciudad Juárez, Mexico and they both stayed in a compound owned by Juárez cartel leader Amado Carrillo Fuentes. Amado however later formed an alliance with the Norte del Valle cartel, and as a result allowed members of the Norte del Valle cartel to attack Pacho’s compound and kill the Herreras. Alvaro was heavily injured during the gunfight. Pacho instructed Alvaro to continue shooting at the perpetrators, one of whom including Duvan Salazar, one of Gerda's son. Pacho countered the gunfight and kicked the door open, firing his pistol at the two men shooting at Alvaro, killing Duvan and the other.
Alvaro falls unconscious and a scene shows Alvaro in medical care in a helicopter, later revealed that he will be in a wheelchair. Vengeance takes over Pacho, having his men attack the Salazar compound and personally executed Gerda Salazar before surrendering to general Rosso José Serrano.
After his brother's death, Alvaro plots to kill those responsible, particularly Orlando Henao of the Nortel del Valle Cartel. Alvaro orchestrates his own arrest and is sent to the same prison Orlando was currently in, he smuggles two guns using outside contacts and shoots Orlando dead in 1999.
He is killed in 2000 by hitmen allegedly sent by Wilber Varela, leader of the valley north and long time associate and friend of Henao, in retaliation for his murder
