Captain Alfredo Zavala Avelar (died 1985) was a Mexican pilot who aided DEA agent Enrique Camarena in taking aerial photographs of the Rancho Búfalo, a marijuana farm run by Rafael Caro Quintero of the Guadalajara cartel. The photographs would lead to a military raid on the farm, leading to over $2 billion worth of marijuana being destroyed. He also flew flights around the area for 4 years for the CIA's eradication program.
For his involvement in operation to secure photographs, he was kidnapped by the DFS and was tortured along with Camarena in Caro Quintero's ranch, despite the DEA agent pleading that Zavala was innocent. Zavala, along with Camerena were eventually killed after a long and agonizing torture session, and were dumped outside a ranch in the countryside.
