"CIA Officer" was a Central Intelligence Agency officer stationed in Colombia from the late 1970s to the early 1990s.
The CIA officer, along with the US Army officer stationed in the US Embassy in Bogota did not care of the DEA's pursuit of drug lord Pablo Escobar, and found left-wing guerrillas a bigger threat than drug traffickers. After the DEA revealed Escobar's connection to Manuel Noriega, the CIA and the US Army increased their co-operation with the DEA.
In 1992, Bill Stechner was appointed the Station Chief for Colombia, outranking this officer.
