Carolina Álvarez was a Colombian journalist working for El Tiempo.
She unofficially aided DEA agent Javier Peña in uncovering the links between the Cali cartel and high ranking members of the Samper government of Colombia. Later, she recorded the tape in which Peña called the country a narco-democracy, triggering the Proceso 8000 political scandal.
