The Christine Discotheque Shootout took place when Sinaloa Cartel hitmen led by Joaquín "Chapo" Guzmán attempted to assassinate the Arellano-Félix family at the Christine Discotheque in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 1992.
Shootout[]
The gunmen, dressed as police officers, walked into the discotheque during Benjamín Arellano Félix's fortieth birthday party celebrations. The Arellano-Félix family's head of security David Barron Corona saw the assassins continuously observing the brothers and deduced that it was an assassination attempt. Barron quickly killed the two guards at the main entrance, triggering the shootout. Chapo and Arturo Beltrán Leyva walk into the discotheque and engage in a gunfight with Barron; while the Arellano-Félix take cover and attempt to flee.
Barron prevented Chapo and Arturo from advancing in to the club, allowing the brothers to escape out of the disco. He later single-handedly managed to save the entire family after they were cornered inside the kitchen area by the gunmen, earning the trust of the Tijuana Cartel and a reputation as "indestructible". Chapo failed to kill any members of the Arellano-Félix family, but managed to wound Francisco Rafael Arellano Félix and accidentally killed Enedina's husband Claudio Vasquez.
Aftermath[]
The shootout directly led to the Guadalajara International Airport shootout the following year when Ramón Arellano Félix and his men attempted to assassinate Chapo at the Guadalajara International Airport.
