Jairo Ortega is a Colombian politician and a former Congressman from the state of Antioquia. He was a member of the New Liberalism political party.
In 1984, he ran for the lower house of the Colombian party with Pablo Escobar as his alternate. With Escobar financing his political campaign, and bribing voters, Ortega won the elections and received the most votes for any candidate during the elections. Immediately, he stepped down citing health and family reasons, and appointed Escobar to take his place in the parliament.
