Juan Pablo Escobar Henao was the son of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, his wife Maria Henao.
In 1992, Pablo Escobar unsuccessfully attempted to send his son, daughter, wife and mother to Germany. The German government refused to grant them visas after the DEA notified them of their identities, and deported them back to Colombia. They remained in the protective custody of the Attorney-General, but after Escobar's death in 1993, sold their remaining belongings to Escobar's rival Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela in order to leave the country safely. Furthermore, Gilberto makes Juan promises that he will be never be his father's successor in the drug business.
Behind the Scenes[]
In reality, the Escobar family moved to a variety of countries, before finally settling in Argentina[1]. Juan Pablo changed his name to Sebastián Marroquín, and works as an architect in Argentina. He eventually authors the bibliography book called Pablo Escobar, My Father in 2014, which becomes a best seller. In a September 2016 post on Facebook, he criticized the Narcos TV series by listing 28 mistakes.[2]
According to him, beside having to surrender his father's remaining assets to Gilberto and promise not to enter the drug trade, another reason why Gilberto decides to spare him is because he absolutely disgusts that his own grandmother, Hermilda wants him dead to take what little inheritance Pablo left to his son.
Additionally, in real life, Juan Pablo was 16 years old at the time of his father's death, and was the man of the family during his father's absence. However, the show inaccurately portrays him as a little child.
