The Partido Revolucionario Institucional (English: Institutional Revolutionary Party), commonly known by its abbreviation PRI is a political party in Mexico which was responsible for running the 'perfect dictatorship' by being in power uninterrupted from 1929 till 2000.
Several party members were in business with drug traffickers, using state apparatus such as the DFS and the Mexican Army to protect drug lords such as Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, Juan Nepomuceno Guerra and Alberto Sicilia Falcon. The Guadalajara cartel helped the party to rig the 1988 elections to its favour.
