The Dirección Federal de Seguridad employed an agent to kill drug smugglers affiliated with the Guadalajara cartel for not paying enough protection money.
The agent raided Victor Molina's house, and killed the elderly drug lord, along with everyone present, including one of the cousins of the Arellano-Félix brothers. This created a rift between the brothers, who were a part of the Guadalajara cartel, and Salvador Osuna Nava, the Director-General of the DFS. Since the brothers wanted revenge, Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo sends Amado Carrillo Fuentes, Joaquín Guzmán Loera and Manuel to ambush the DFS agents while they were on a raid. The lead DFS agent was captured, and beaten with a crowbar by Guzmán Loera before being delivered to Ramón Arellano Félix, who later shoots him dead.
