Rodrigo Gonzalez was a military officer in the Colombian National Police, and one of the top officers of the anti-narcotics division.
In 1989, Colonel Horacio Carrillo met Rodrigo and Jaramillo and threatened to quit the police force unless he received a battalion of incorruptable men. As Carrillo was credited with several successes against drug cartels his resignation would bring down the image of the police force, so the generals agreed to the creation of the elite Search Bloc unit to target the Medellín cartel. After César Gaviria expressed support for extradition, Gonzalez met Carrillo at his home and asked him to disband the Search Bloc in exchange for $6 million. Gonzalez told Carrillo that he was there on Pablo Escobar's orders, and that he wondered why hadn't Escobar killed Gaviria's family yet.
